Hey there, tech enthusiasts and digital denizens! Andrey Avdyushin here, bringing you the first-ever episode of “Tech Oddities”. Still shaking off that holiday’s confetti? Join the club; I’m right there with you. That’s why we’re diving into new stories at the speed of a leisurely Sunday morning brunch.

You ever find yourself in one of those introspective moods? The kind where you’ve been going through the motions for years, and suddenly, you’re hit with a wave of curiosity about why you do the things you do. Think of it as spring cleaning for your brain’s hard drive (and hey, that might just be the catchphrase this newsletter needs).

So, here’s a brain buster I stumbled upon recently: the trash can icon in software interfaces. Not a universal pet peeve, but hear me out:

  • In places where it’s used to delete something permanently, doesn’t it strike you as a bit off? Like, why a trash can?
  • It’s not as if the deleted file is chilling in there, waiting to be taken out. Isn’t this metaphor kind of misleading?
  • Does it really communicate what’s happening, or would a simple “X” do the job better?

I’m eager to hear your thoughts, so drop a comment below. Am I onto something, or am I the only one out here questioning these digital conventions? Or better yet, share your own Tech Oddities that seem to bother only you!
